Editors’ note: Due to the winter storm, the TPB meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 29.

The Transportation Planning Board is scheduled to meet at noon on Wednesday, March 15. The official agenda and all meeting materials will be posted on the Thursday before the meeting. Here’s a quick preview of what’s coming up:

Endorsing Equity Emphasis Areas map and methodology. TPB staff have developed a new approach to assessing whether the region’s long-range transportation plan will have disproportionate adverse impacts on low-income and minority populations. The board first reviewed the proposed approach in January and will be asked to formally endorse it at the March meeting. Get highlights from the board’s January discussion.

Approving a work scope for the Long-Range Plan Task Force. The board will consider for final approval a draft work scope that it crafted at its February meeting. The TPB’s Long-Range Plan Task Force is working to identify transportation priorities above and beyond what is included in the region’s financially constrained long-range transportation plan (CLRP). Approving work plans and budgets for FY 2018. The board will review the draft work plans and budgets for both the TPB and the TPB’s Commuter Connections program for the coming fiscal year, which begins July 1. The proposed budget to carry out all elements of the TPB’s draft work plan is $16.5 million. The draft Commuter Connections budget is $5.9 million.

Approving amendments to the FY 2017-2022 TIP. The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has proposed an amendment to add $560 million in funding for replacement of the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial Bridge. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has proposed adjustments in funding to a number of smaller projects throughout Northern Virginia.

Programming note:

  • The TPB’s Long-Range Plan Task Force is scheduled to meet immediately following the March 15 TPB meeting.
